For all of his life, Rick Wile has had his finger on the pulse of sports, all over the world from his home base in Kamloops, BC, Canada. He has covered sports in all forms from the grassroots to the pros through live broadcasts, interview and editorials, delivering The Bear spin. When he left mainstream radio in 2017, listeners and followers were faced with a void. Now the Bear is back reconnecting as he follows his passion
“I love sports/ I’ve loved this area, the people, their spirit and their love of sports for more than 4 decades in Kamloops and over 50 years in the communications industry. Sports fans are my people. Stories have to be told and it’s best you hear from them or people like me who lived them. This website rickthebear.com is the perfect vehicle to connect all of the dots and continue to do the things I waa born to do. Hop onboard the Bear-Mobile, it’s going to be a fun ride”
The Bear has covered all of the major sports and many off the beaten path, such as ski jumping, hang gliding and kickboxing. They all brought him closer to a variety of people telling their stories, from the young athletes doing their best to the millionaire superstars and the owners at the top of the chain. He brings the story home shedding a different light or perspective on it, straight from the hip.
He is the WHLinsider on the nationally syndicated show, Canadian Junior Hockey Magazine and his work in the community afforded him election to the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of championing the sports movement in addition to his involvement with the media as a player, coach, manager, administrator and official in slo-pitch during its enormous growth period.
